November 05: To The Hills! (Pt. 1)

In November 05, Honeycombers went to the hills! The annexed town of Stonehill was slowly but surely turning into a great place to live (and learn!) and during this autumn month it was the focus of many Honeycomb Valley residents.

Luke and Susie

1

One early November morning, Susie made breakfast which they ate while Boy brought the newspaper in.2

Since it was a nice and sunny day, Luke decided to read the paper out in the sunshine, while heavily pregnant Susie took a moment to relax next to her boyfriend.
2c=3

“Honeycomb Hills!” Luke chuckled. “That’s actually brilliant!”
“Hmm? What?” Susie answered, distracted from her train of thought.
“Stonehill! They named it ‘Honeycomb Hills’. It looks like it’s going to be really nice too. Look, there’s a picture of the public transport station and the new university.”Newspaper honeycomb hills simlish

Welcome to
HONEYCOMB HILLS!

While the contest to rename Stonehill first seemed fruitless, a late entry by 18 year old Rachel Murray proved to be a winner and thus we can now announce the town of Stonehill will, from this day forward, be known as Honeycomb Hills.
Mayor Newman is turning out to be a man true to his word. Over the past few months, there’s been a lot of activity in Honeycomb Hills and as promised, a public transport station with underground and bus links to Honeycomb Valley is the first project to be completed. The grand opening of the station is scheduled for next week, the 8th of November.
Meanwhile, work is also well on the way on the University, which will be renamed from Honeycomb Valley University to simply Honeycomb University.
With classes scheduled to start at the University in just three weeks time, it’s going to be quite a task to complete it in time, but mayor Newman has complete faith in the men carrying out the work and is sure they will finish in time.
Note: The column to the right focusses on Rachel and how she came up with the name.

But Susie had something else on her mind.3“That’s all very nice dear, but how about the work on our house? I don’t know if you noticed, but I’m about to pop out a baby and we have no place to put it, still!”

Hormones…
Luke reassured his girl all would be alright and sure enough, and with a little help from some builder friends, a few days later, the little ranch house was covered in scaffolding. 4

At the Runaway House

Even though Honeycomb Hills was slowly turning into a place worth living, there was still lots to be done as well, and over at the Runaway House…5

… there were two ‘ladies’ who still felt like they were alone in this town. Judging by the volume of their voices…6

“Listen ‘miss Martha’, I don’t know what you are thinking, walking around here like you own the place, but this is still mine and Ray’s house and you are lucky we let you stay here!”
“Oh is that right? Who died and made you boss, Liz?” Martha retorted.

But Ray had enough.
7

“Will you stop it!? The both of you! First of all, Liz, yes, I invited Martha to stay here, just like I invited you to stay here a year ago. But it’s not ‘our house’. Hell, we’re lucky to even have this roof over our heads!”

8

“And secondly, will you both just keep. it. down.?! I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we’re not alone in this town anymore and we should lay low. Which isn’t happening with the both of you having daily shooting matches!”

And with that, Ray left to get some air.
Martha followed.9

“I’m sorry Ray, you’re right, we do need to cool it…”
Ray sighed “It’s okay. I’m just worried… What with all the building that’s going on around town, I think it’s only going to be a matter of time until we are found out and forced out of here. And worse, are all send back to where we came from…”

10

“I’ve been thinking, maybe it’s time to leave this place and head into the hills. I have a tent and we have the sleepingbags… Sure, we’ll lose the comforts of having a roof over our heads and running water, but at least we won’t be found… How about we go and explore, see if there’s a spot where we could set up camp?”

Martha agreed, and after Ray talked to Liz, she also reluctantly had to admit this would actually be best.

And so, when dusk settled in, they went into the hills to find a spot.11

After a long hike, they discovered a great big, secluded pond.12

“This might work…” Ray said. “We could catch some fish here too for food.”
But Liz wasn’t happy. 13

“You can’t be serious Ray… It’s freezing here and it’s only November… We’ll die out here when winter comes around… I’m going back to the house.”

And so, Liz left. 14

Ray and Martha decided to stay to test the spot a bit more. To see if there were actually fish here and how cold it would get as it got later.
They had soon caught a lot of fish which they roasted over a fire (The firepit and chairs were already there, this place must have been a great camping spot back in the glory days of Stonehill)15

With the fire burning, it wasn’t actually that cold, so after they finished their fish, Ray and Martha sat down to have a chat.16“So your parents really sold you to nuns?”
“Yep. Well, no, they didn’t sell me, but they did try to stick me in a convent…”
“Wow…”17

“…”
“So how about you, Ray? What’s your tale?”

18

“Ah, you know the story. Boy is born to unfit parents. Boy gets placed in the foster care system. The system fails boy. Boy gets in trouble at school. Boy gets kicked out of school, and then another, and then another. Boy goes from one foster family to the next. None of them really want him. Boy decides ‘screw you all’ and runs away.”
“That must have been tough…”
Ray shrugged. “Just life. Well, my life anyway.”

After sitting in silence for a bit longer, Ray suggested they’d head back to the house.
“But first, there’s a little thing I’ve been wanting to do for weeks now…”

19

Being a runaway sure had its perks, Martha felt.

After that kiss, Ray and Martha went back to the house.
20

When they got ‘home’, Martha went upstairs to make use of the running water while they still had it.

Meanwhile, Liz took care of Ray…21

“You look sore and cold from that long walk, Ray. How about I give you a massage?”

Since Ray knew Liz gave the best massages, he allowed her to do her thing.22

“So much tension! You know, I can think of another way to relieve that tension…”

23

“We can’t do that, Liz, you know we’re not alone in the house anymore” Ray whispered back.

Oh dear, what will come of this…?

The Public Transport Station

On the 8th of November, the day was finally here: the first new building in Honeycomb Hills would be officially opened. Of course, Honeycomb Gazette reporter Abigail headed out to report on the opening of the public transport station.

24

It was pouring down that day, so not a lot of Honeycomb Valley residents had made the trip to Honeycomb Hills to attent the opening. But mayor Henry Newman didn’t let that stop him. 25

“Yes, it may be quiet here today, but from this day onward, a little rain will not hinder anyone coming to Honeycomb Hills anymore, since it’s now possible to visit this lovely town by bus or underground as well!

The small crowd that did attent the opening were pleased by Henry’s words and couldn’t wait to go in.26

After the station had officially been opened, Abigail had a little interview with Henry in which he spoke about both the station and the great university campus which was also quite nearly ready.27

Off to University!

In fact, it was only a week and a half later that five nervous but excited best friends were ready for a big lifechanging step…

At the Wyler house the car they rented was ready to be packed.28

Sarah, James, Jill and Seth  (and Daniel, not pictured here) felt it was going to be quite a job to pack everything in the car, but were determined to make it fit.

29

Meanwhile, Patty welcomed the other parents who had all come to wave their children off.

30

Once everything was packed (yes, they managed to make it fit), it was almost time to go. After some last minute well-meant parental advice on the driveway…31

… it was time to say goodbye.32

Dan was a bit anxious though, as Sadie still wasn’t there. She had promised to come straight from school, but was nowhere to be seen…

33

But thankfully, a few minutes later, there she was.

34

Robert, who had still been at work, also arrived just in time to say goodbye to his son and daughter. And Hannah had left work a bit early to wave off her eldest son.35

Daniel was driving, and once everyone has gotten in…

36

…the parents and Sadie got one final look and they were off to Honeycomb Hills.

37

Soon disappearing out of sight.

38

Of course Patty had made a little event of it all and the parents gathered in het backyard for coffee and cakes. 39

See how our students get on in…

Blind Date

That night, Rachel helped her little sister get ready. As the day had progressed, Ruby actually did get excited for her “blind date”. Who would it be? Many names and faces had already gone through her head, but she just couldn’t figure it out.

best sisters

When she was all done, Ruby got on her brother’s bike (hers was lost again…) and rode to the park.

Screenshot-85

As she walked over the bridge towards the island, she saw her and immediately recognised her…

Screenshot-89

Trisha.

Screenshot-91

Ruby was pleasantly surprised. She didn’t know Trisha all that well, but from the couple of times they’d hung out, she seemed like a lovely, cheerful and funny girl.

Screenshot-94

“I didn’t expect it to be you!”
“Hehe, I hope it’s not too big a disappointment!”

“No! No, not at all…”

Ruby and Trisha spent the entire evening hanging around in the park chatting and getting to know each other better.

hanging out

Time flew by and before long, it was time to say goodbye.

Screenshot-108

“Thank you for meeting me, Ruby. I had a really nice time tonight!”
“No, thank YOU for being brave enough to text me. This has been wonderful!”

Trisha sure was brave. Brave enough even to try…

Screenshot-115

And Ruby was surprised to find her heart do a little jump…

Back home she told her big sister all about her night.

Screenshot-119

Rachel was very happy for her little sis!

Screenshot-123

And Ruby just couldn’t stop talking about it all…

Screenshot-128

…Until they were interrupted by their mum… Screenshot-129

Hannah needs a hobby to get through this burn out…

Morgan

While Trisha was with Ruby at the park, her brother went to Foster’s to meet Morgan

Screenshot-172

They sat down and ordered a drink and Morgan explained the details of her plan to Gareth.

Screenshot-174

She was soon interrupted by him though…
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, like I said, I’d LOVE to help you out! So, how about we get to it? Your place or mine? I’m a healthy guy, I can go all night long and as many times as is needed!”

Morgan was appalled…

Screenshot-175

“What?! No! We do this at the hospital!”
“The hospital? Okay, not my first choice, but hey, they have beds there. Or are you a public place kinda gal? All fine by me baby, we can do it anywhere you like!”

Morgan had heard enough and got up to leave before their drinks had even arrived. Gareth stopped her though.

Screenshot-177

“Aww baby, don’t go, we’re just getting started. Look, maybe I came on a bit strong, it’s just you’re so fiiiiine I can’t control myself y’know. Let’s just do this baby, it’s win-win, right? You get something, I get something.”

At this point Morgan just got angry.

jerk

“Just get out of my way ,okay! You’re disgusting and wish we’d never met!”

Screenshot-180

“Oh, that’s how it is? First you say you want a baby and then I come and graciously offer to help you and then suddenly you get all prudish? Fine! I’ll go then! Some mum you will be if you aren’t even willing to put in the effort to MAKE a child!”

And with that, Gareth left.

Morgan was left feeling distraught. It seemed this donor search would never end well. All she attracted were creepy men…

After another week of no more emails, Morgan was really feeling down and decided to treat herself to a new outfit to feel better…

Screenshot-183

Yes, at least she looked good…

Screenshot-188

And there was more good to come as she would go to City Hall tomorrow to sign the buyers contract which would make her owner of a lovely little house in The Greenery. Although she was starting to wonder if it wouldn’t be better to just return to Bridgeport…

But when she got back to the hostel and opened her laptop to work on her book a bit more, she found she had an email, subject: donorsearch.sim

Screenshot-212

Anxiously, Morgan opened it… It was long…

David mail

“Dear Morgan,

How are you? And how is your book coming along?
My name is David Stewart and I write to you in response to your ad on donorsearch.sim. My husband Bradley and I immediately liked you, but we’ve put off writing to you as I figured we’re probably not what you’re looking for. However, my ever persuasive spouse eventually convinced me there’s no harm in trying. 😉

Let me start of by telling you a bit more about us. I’m 28 and Brad is 32. We’ve been married for 4 years now. I work as a desk clerk at City Hall and Bradley is in the military. We have a dog, Voice, who we love, but our family isn’t quite as complete as we’d like it to be yet. We would love to be dads, even if it’s just part time.

With this wish in mind, we started searching on donorsearch.sim for a woman who was looking for someone to co-parent with. So far we haven’t been able to find someone who’d be a good match. They either live too far away or aren’t really a match for us.
And then there was you! Funny, sweet, beautiful and living in Honeycomb Valley on top of that! Like I said, we were immediately excited to have found you. And then we saw you clicked the box saying you were looking for a donor and not a co-parent… You can imagine our disappointment…

So I guess I’m writing you in hope you might reconsider. I know this is a big decision and not something to take lightly, but we can tell you up front we’re willing to work out an arrangement which makes all three of us happy. Together, we could make three wishes come true and give this baby three parents who will love him/her to the moon.

Thank you for your time to read this email either way. We hope to hear from you. You can reply to this email, send us a message through donorsearch or call us on 634-713905.

Good luck with your adventure.

Hugs,
David (and Bradley) Stewart

Ps: Attached you find a picture of us. I’m the dark-haired one.”

The email left Morgan speechless… True, she wasn’t looking for a co-parenting situation because of all the hassle that gave. What to with birthdays and Christmas? And she also didn’t think she could bare to be without her child frequently… But these guys… They seemed so sweet and kind. And did it say Bradley was in the military? Maybe Kai knew him then! It was worth asking about…

After a lot of thinking, Morgan decided to give David a call. At least it couldn’t be worse than the meeting with Gareth had been…

Screenshot-214

David also sounded nice on the phone and was extremely excited Morgan called him. They decided to meet the next day after Morgan’s appointment about the house.

Residents for The Greenery

The next morning Morgan was first to arrive in Henry‘s office.

Screenshot-242

Usually, when Sims bought houses in Honeycomb Valley, they had to go through estate agent Leonard, but in this case, Henry dealt with everything considering The Greenery himself. It was his project after all.

Screenshot-243

Soon, Colin and Grace arrived as well, as both the Mason and the Anderson family had also decided to go for it.Screenshot-244

Henry explained what living in The Greenery meant for its residents. Sims wanting to live there had to sign a contract saying they agreed to living entirely eco friendly, which meant they weren’t allowed to own cars and dryers (washing machines were allowed) and had to always be conscious about separating their trash and composting.eco rules

Everyone agreed to this and they all signed their contracts. Congratulations! You are now neighbours!

Screenshot-252

Morgan

Morgan’s exciting day had not come to an end yet though, as she headed to the pancake house to meet David and Bradley…

co parent meeting

The boys were as nervous as Morgan was, and they all decided to have some pancakes to calm their nerves.

Screenshot-263

After they had all finished eating, they discussed their hopes and dreams. Morgan told them about her concerns with a co-parenting situation and the boys told Morgan about their wish to be dads and how they really wouldn’t mind if this was only part time. They were willing to work out any kind of arrangement Morgan felt comfortable with.

Morgan had a lot to think about, but she was really starting to warm to the idea of co-parenting with these men. They were just so lovely and they wanted this so badly!
If Morgan actually does decide to go for it with David and Bradley, we’ll see that in May… For now she has a lot to consider!

January 05: Ice Ice Baby (Pt.2)

Go back to…
part 1

In the next few weeks there were more and more people all over town who tried on their ice skates. This was not without reason! At the end of the month there would be an ice skating event on the canals! Lots of people, such as Lexie, wanted to gain some skills before this day.

Screenshot-139

After School

Two and a half weeks into January there was something buzzing at The Beehive. Someone, in some class had the idea to visit the lake at the waterfall this afternoon. Apparently it was frozen over. That hardly ever happened! So the news went round and more and more people adopted the plan to visit the lake after school that afternoon.

It sure was busy!

Screenshot-150

Groups of friends, parents with young children, couples, it almost seemed like everyone was there!

Screenshot-149

Seth was being very careful…

Screenshot-141

…but he still needs a bit of practice…

stumbling seth

The highschool seniors, Seth, James, Daniel, Jill and Sarah, have been this group of friends ever since they were 5. Suzan is also a highschool senior, but she has always been part of a different “group” and is quite a different type of person anyway. But these five have been friends (and as we all know, in some cases a bit more than that) for ages. This year is the last year they’ll enter as teens, as they’ll all graduate high school this June. But it’s not June yet, it’s January. And after the afternoon on the ice, this group of friends decided to spend a bit more time together and go out for pizza.

pizzaJill took the fact James sat next to her to mean something, but he seemed to just have a fun night of food and chats.

Screenshot-156

After pizza they also went to the cinema. Seth had to go home though, which was too bad.
It was very quiet in the cinema. Probably because it was so cold outside.

Screenshot-157

When they chatted for a bit after the movie, Daniel seemed very distracted by his phone…

The Ice Skating Contest

On the last saturday of January it was time for the Ice Skating Contest on the canals. We meet Daniel again, as he and Sadie had agreed to meet early that morning on the playpark halfway between their houses, before going to the canals. Whatever it was between them was still just between them (well, and Esme and Martha, who saw them kissing on NYE and obviously Rachel, who Sadie had already told, but hey) and so they still met in secret.

Screenshot-163

They were happy to see each other.morning date

Daniel was so happy even, he felt his dream came true. Awww…
(Isn’t this just the cutest moodlet?)

Screenshot-171

Down by the canals it soon got very busy. Stands had been put up where people could help themselves to hot chocolate or soup to keep warm.
busy canals

Dylan and Amelia, being the town’s most “famous” sports personalities, were going to judge the event.

Everyone was allowed to skate on the canals freely, but Dylan and Amelia would be watching closely and choosing winners in three categories:
– Best spin
– Best backwards skating
– Best couples spin

Screenshot-180

Soon, lots of people were skating. Some  really good, others not so much, but at least everyone was having fun.

everybody skate

After 2 hours of watching the skaters, the judges headed over to the pancake house at the top of the canals to discuss what they had seen.Screenshot-193

Meanwhile, I caught a certain young lady destroying a snow angel by the side of the canal… Oh Ellie

Screenshot-189

The scores are in! People gathered in front of the pancake house to hear Dylan announce the winners…

Screenshot-196

In the category “Best spin”, the winner is…

Screenshot-182

Luke Bennett! For both his skill and the fact that he wasn’t distracted by people falling all around him.

In the category “Best backwards skating”, the winner is…

Screenshot-185

Ruby Murray! For daring to skate backwards even on busier spots of the canal and doing so without bumping into anyone!

And finally,in the category “Best couples spin”, the winners are…

Screenshot-187

Brother and sister Jake and Abbey Atkins! For being fluent and synchronised!

Winners group picture time!

Screenshot-206

In the midst of all this business, Sarah pulled her cousin apart.

“Look Dan”, she said, “I have to ask you. You’ve been acting a bit… weird lately. You’re so distracted and sometimes we just can’t reach you at all. I was beginning to get worried, but earlier this afternoon I saw you talking to Sadie on the bridge and I couldn’t help but think, is there something going on between you two…?”

cousin heart to heart

Well, what’s a boy to do when asked so straight forward… So yes, Daniel confirmed there was indeed “something” going on between him and Sadie.
“So”, Sarah asked, “is she your girlfriend now?”
“No… I mean, I don’t know… We haven’t really talked about it…”
“Well, do you want her to be your girlfriend?”
“Yes, I really do…”
“Then make it happen! And no more of this secretkeeping!”

Screenshot-203

Sometimes, Sarah can be a bit like her mother
But Daniel appreciated his cousin’s advice and was glad he no longer had to hide.

Screenshot-204

There was only one thing left to do:

girlfriend

“So I guess what I’m asking is… do you want to be my girlfriend?”

Screenshot-210

Of course she wanted that!

And with that, the first month of 05 was over. Well nearly….

Surprise, surprise

On the last day of January there was a little surprise at the Bennett household: Spider and Snow became parents to a little foal! Awww! His name is Cinnamon and Susie couldn’t be happier.

Screenshot-215

Bring on February!

January 05: Ice Ice Baby (Pt.1)

January in Honeycomb Valley consisted of hardly anything but snowmen, skating and romances, so in other words: Ice ice baby!

The Morning After…

After what, you ask? Well, after New Years Eve of course. There were few loose ends to tie here and there… Instead of the morning after, we could just say new years day, yes. Same difference. 🙂 Say what? You don’t know what happened on New Years Eve? Then read this first.

Seth and Sarah

Awww, Seth is such a lovely boyfriend! First he gave Sarah a necklace for their anniversary and now he made her pancakes for breakfast as well. Which his dad and sisters enjoyed too. But where is Hannah…?

Screenshot-2

Still in bed? And she didn’t even have a big NYE party… Hannah has not been well lately… We’re not sure what’s wrong with her though. Hopefully she’ll get better soon. Elliot brought her breakfast up to her for when she’d wake up…

Screenshot-3

Daniel and Sadie

Dan‘s new years kiss had had a good response from Sadie, but after that moment they both had to go home quite quickly, so the first thing Daniel wondered when he woke up was if it had just been for the night or if Sadie actually felt the same way about him as he did about her.

So he sent her text, saying “Goodmorning beautiful girl, did you sleep well? 🙂 Xxx”

Screenshot-6

Sadie was just up as well and was actually contemplating if she should text Daniel when her phone beeped.

Texts to Sadie

Oh happy day! She sent a text back: “Hey :)) Yeah, thanks. I had a dream about you… ❤ xxxxxxx”

Screenshot-14

Daniel, happy to get her text, decided to give her a call and ask her out on a date.

Screenshot-20

Sadie of course said yes, which pleased Dan to no end.

Screenshot-21

We’ll check back with Daniel and Sadie later!

Luke and Susie

Susie had a bone to pick with her boyfriend about last night.

Screenshot-65

“And I just felt really old… And you were talking to and dancing with all these younger girls… Now, I don’t want to be the jealous girlfriend, but I’m just scared you’ll like them more than me, because they’re not so old…”

about last nightLuke let Susie rant for a while and when she got up to clean the dishes and finally stopped talking, he managed to get a word in.

don't worry“First of all, you’re not old. Secondly, you were the most beautiful girl at that party. Hey, you’re the most beautiful girl at any party! And I’m sorry if I didn’t pay enough attention to you, I really am. I just get caught up and don’t realise these things.”

move in with me“And then another thing, you’re here all the time anyway, how about you move in?”

Susie was overjoyed by this question!

Screenshot-86

Hmm, we’ll leave them be for a second and go see someone else this morning after…

Emmett and Abbey

After last night, Emmett thought his changes with Abbey might actually be turning. So like Daniel, he too sent a text the next morning. His was far less romantic though and just said “Awesome party :D”

Screenshot-58

Upon receiving this text, Abbey sent back :”Thanks. I’m glad you came.”

Screenshot-59

Wow, Emmett, you may be right…

***Note: Since both Emmett and Lucas have shown interest in Abbey, I decided to let her wishes decide who, if anyone, she’ll end up with. After the New Years Eve party she suddenly had the wish to “kiss Emmett”. Well, well, well…***

How the Day Went On…

Daniel and Sadie

From the moment they met later that morning, it was clear to both Daniel and Sadie it had not been just a New Years Eve kiss…

Screenshot-22

They started their date by skating on the canal

Screenshot-26

And even tried a spin (and failed)

And had a snowball fight

Screenshot-41

Around 2, they needed to go back to Daniel’s house, because they were to have rehearsal with the band later.

While Seth and James weren’t there yet, Daniel and Sadie used the garage/rehearsal space for a different purpose…

make out

Seth and James arrived together and were let in by Dan’s dad, Oliver, who sent them straight through to the garage.

Screenshot-47

Daniel and Sadie were able to pull away from each other just in time. They didn’t want anyone to know about them yet -it was still so soon- and were especially unsure how their bandmembers would respond. For now, let’s keep it between us.Screenshot-48

And The Hot Wings rehearsed just like they always did. Here’s hoping you’ll get lots of gigs in 05, guys!

Screenshot-51

Luke and Susie

Susie’s day was already made after Luke asked her to move in with him, but it got even better when they decided to take Spider and Snow out for a winter-y ride.

Screenshot-89
They went to one of the lakes where they first built a snowman

Boy also watched when Susie and Luke tried the ice.

Screenshot-103

Susie was a bit wobbly.

Screenshot-105

But Luke turned out to be a real pro!

Luke awesomeSo it was only natural he would help Suse out.

Screenshot-110

It seems Boy was a bit jealous though… Judging by the way we found the snowman…

Screenshot-108

When it got dark, Luke, Susie, Spider, Snow and Boy headed back home (and I’ve never seen those signs on the rocks before…)

Screenshot-116

Boy apparently needed some one on one attention, so when they got home, Luke took Boy out to their favourite place behind the church.best friend boy

Awww, Boy… She may be his favourite girl, but you’re still his favourite Boy. 😉

November 04: Courtship (Part 2)

Click to go back to…part 1

Abbey

Remember back in April, when Emmett went on a date with tough girl Abbey? And how she rejected him? She rejected. him.  Emmett couldn’t believe it, no one had ever rejected him. So, since March, he made several attempts to get in contact with her again, but to no avail. Of course, Emmett wasn’t giving up. Not usually one to chase after a girl (“let them come to me, I attract them like moths to a flame, really”), this girl was another story all together. Because of that whole rejecting business obviously. He couldn’t have that. Oh no.

So Emmett tried a different strategy. He went down to the police station…

Screenshot-20

“Yeah, so, I would like to work here”, he told the officer behind the counter.
“You’ll have to fill out some forms and take a few tests”, he was told. “Then you get to accompany an officer for a day and if you get approved you can work here and take the course simultaneously.”
“Is that officer Abbey?”

Screenshot-22

Abbey herself just got home from work and had taken a shower when there was a knock on her door.

“Hi, I’m Lucas. I just moved into the apartment upstairs and I wanted to say hi.”
So Abbey and her new neighbour chatted for a while. About work and interests. Lucas of course also had to enquire about a Mr. Abbey, to which Abbey laughed and told him that no, there was no “Mr. Abbey”.
When Lucas told her he worked as a scullion at Foster’s, Abbey replied that she really couldn’t cook at all. Lucas, never one to miss an opportunity, immediately offered to cook her dinner the next night.
new neighbour

The next morning, Abbey took Boris for a walk and then headed off to work.

morningwalk
There, a surprise awaited her…

“What are you doing here!?”
“I work here now” Emmett replied grinning. “And better yet, I get to ride along with you today!”

New coworker

Abbey had no choice but to make the best of it and she and Emmett got in the car and patrolled the town that day.

Screenshot-149

Near the end of their shift, they got a message from the station telling them they had to go an interview Onslow Mills, as he was a suspect in the “missing bikes mystery” that taunts Honeycomb Valley.

Umm… Emmett, I don’t think you’re supposed to be texting while on the job… (I suspect he was texting Wesley to tell him he was right across his trailer…)

Suspect

Abbey asked Onslow some tough questions which he answered (but I think he was lying).

Screenshot-154

Emmett was quite impressed with Abbey’s way of handling the situation and told her so when they were outside again. Abbey in turn actually seemed quite pleased with this compliment.

However, now it was time to go home, since she obviously still had dinnerplans.compliment

While Abbey greeted Boris and then took a shower…

Screenshot-163

…Lucas was busy in his own apartment preparing dinner for them.

Screenshot-161

There she was.

Screenshot-164

They sat down for dinner and wine.dinner

And had a chat.

Screenshot-170

But Abbey had been eyeing Lucas’ pooltable! She couldn’t wait to shoot some pool with him! Lucas first decided to go easy on her, but soon learnt not to hold back! This girl is a pro! poolIt was a good night!

Luke

By now, a whole month had passed since that night Luke spent on the roof with Susie. And still, he had not heard from her… So, it seemed, that was really over…
He felt sad. He tried not to let it get him down, but fact remained, he was sad. He really thought she was perfect. *Sigh*

Luke filled Boy’s bowl…

Screenshot-178

…And then sat down by his fire.
He was just getting lost in thought again, when suddenly the doorbell rang…

Screenshot-179

“Sss… Suse…? What are you doing he… I mean, come in, did you get my texts? No, don’t answer that, it doesn’t matter. I mean, I’m sorry about the ki… I mean what.., uhm…”

Screenshot-180

“Just shut up.” Was all Susie replied.

Screenshot-181

“Are you… are you sure about this…?” Luke asked.
“I’ve been thinking about it for an entire month. Yes, I’m sure.”

Screenshot-182

And with that, she kissed him again, and again, and again, and… well… you get the idea…

Screenshot-183

After… well.. that, Luke and Susie spent the whole night talking. About how terrified Suse had been after that night on the roof, about their childhood, about failed relationships, about family, about hopes and dreams and all that jazz.

And when morning came, Susie really was sure she had made the right decision. She had to leave though, she had a job waiting.

Screenshot-189

But Luke didn’t just want to let her go and risk not hearing from her for yet another month. He also wanted her to know he really was serious about this.

Screenshot-197

“Wait! Do you think that maybe… um.. I could perhaps… call you my girlfriend?”steadyYes. It turned out, Susie liked that idea very much indeed.

And with that, November came to an end. The trees had lost almost all their leaves, so it seemed winter was right around the corner. More on that some other time!

November 04: Courtship (Part 1)

You’d think early spring would be the designated time for blooming love, wouldn’t you? Well, it seems for the Sims of Honeycomb Valley, this time was November. Although, in some cases I guess it’s more lust than love and in others the feelings seem to be very one-sided. And then there’s that one couple, in which case we really can call it a courtship… Curious yet? You’ll have to wait just a bit longer, because the first event of SimNovember had nothing what so ever to do with courtship…

Valerie

It may not have had anything to do with courtship, but it did involve love. Two parents loving their daughter. Their one year old daughter to be precise. It was Valerie’s first birthday!

The whole family came over to celebrate Valerie’s first. Evelyn seems much happier about her child’s first birthday than her sister was 2 months ago.

she's one!

After blowing out the candles and unwrapping the presents, the family had cake, while cousins Valerie and Vicky played with play dough. Awww, Justin, I can already see it happening… The girls sticking together and Justin being left out…cousins

Of course, cousin Ellie wouldn’t be Ellie if she didn’t get up to some mischief!
(Ellie started to destroy the pumpkin completely autonomously! It made me laugh. So typically Ellie…)

Screenshot-18

This made no difference to Valerie, who had a great birthday either way!

Luke

Two weeks had passed since that night Luke spent with Susie on the roof, and even though he couldn’t stop thinking of her while going about his daily business, he hadn’t heard from her since and kept wondering if he’d made a big mistake by kissing her…

Screenshot-144

He had sent her a few texts to ask her how she was doing and avoided talking about that kiss. But even a simple “how was work today? :)” didn’t get a reply.

Screenshot-143

He asked Boy for advice.
“What do you think I should do? Should I just try and forget about her? Or should I apologise for kissing her? I still really like her, you know…”
Boy just licked his face in response.

Boy talk

Because talking to Boy didn’t get him a lot of answers, Luke decided to ask Kyra after a rainy riding lesson how her aunt was doing.
“She’s alright,” Kyra said. “She seems a bit distracted lately, but I guess she’s fine.”

Screenshot-175

Little did Luke know that Susie had actually spent all her time thinking about that night too. She tried to distract herself by reading and drawing, but it didn’t really work. She got Luke’s texts but couldn’t bring herself to respond to them.
“He’s too young Suse,” she told herself. “It’ll only lead to another broken heart…”

Rebecca

Hey, look who it is, Amy and John with their eldest and youngest child at the busstop. And with a suitcase even! Rebecca was leaving  for a few days. She was going to visit Ben in his hometown of Bonnie Brae. Of course she wouldn’t technically be staying with Ben! Heavens no, an unmarried woman staying with an unmarried man? No no, John would never allow it and the thought alone made Becca much too scared. She was going to stay with Ben’s eldest sibling; his sister Edith and her family.
(Lucy was at the busstation too, to pick up Nathan, who returned from a brilliant stay with his friend KamKam in Krampouezh. Read all about that here!)

Screenshot-41
After a busride, a change from bus to train in Bridgeport (such an awful place, according to Rebecca) and a few more hours on the train, Rebecca arrived in rainy Bonnie Brae*.

Screenshot-42

Rebecca’s train was early, so she had to wait a while before Ben and his family arrived. He had brought his parents and Edith with her youngest daughter Matilda.ArrivalRebecca, Ben, Edith and Matilda took a taxi to Edith’s house.

Screenshot-50
Rebecca was immediately very impressed by Edith’s house. it felt so warm and cozy! Oh to have a home like this…

Screenshot-52
Edith served some coffee and homemade pies and the three adults sat down so Becca and Edith could get better acquainted. coffee
After coffee, Edith gave her guest a tour of the house. First stop: the guestroom, or, for now, Becca’s room! Rebecca could hardly believe it! Her own room! She hadn’t had a room to herself since she was three and Martha was born! And it got even better still, because this room had its very own bathroom!
After showing Rebecca the room she’d be staying in, Edith took her upstairs to show her the rest of the house. Rebecca loved every corner of it, but was most impressed by the bedroom where Edith’s daughter Bethany and Matilda slept. Oh, she couldn’t wait to create a room like that for her own children!roomBen had borrowed his dad’s car and took Rebecca out to see the town.
They stopped at the local pub; The Shepherd and Flock.

Here, Rebecca met pub owner Hailey who called her “love” and asked her about life “in the city”. Hayley
It was still early, so there weren’t a lot of customers yet. Ben showed Rebecca how to throw darts.
Screenshot-73
Rebecca never liked going out in Honeycomb Valley, but this place sure was lovely.
Screenshot-77
After an hour or so at the pub, Ben told Rebecca he had another place to show her. They got back in the car and drove to a hill. At the top of that hill, a gorgeous little house was situated.
“This will be my house”, Ben said. “My grandfather used to own a lot of land in Bonnie Brae and he left this house to me.
Becca was speechless. To live in a house like this was something she had always secretly dreamt of…House on the hill
When they returned, Edith was making dinner. Her two eldest children, 7 year old Bethany and 5 year old Ewan, had arrived home as well, as had their dad, Caleb, who was the local grocer.
Rebecca first felt a bit shy in the midst of all these new people, but the anxiety soon settled when they all turned out to be really nice.familylife
Edith had cooked salmon and made pumpkin pie for dessert. It was lovely.

dinnertime

After dinner it was time for Ben and Rebecca to say goodbye, as Ben would obviously be sleeping at home, with his parents.
When they were hugging goodbye, Ben whispered to Becca; “I really like you, you’re very sweet.” Rebecca couldn’t be happier.he likes herThe next morning, the family had breakfast, just before Caleb went to his grocery store.

After Bethany and Ewan had also left for school, Rebecca helped Edith in the garden.

When Ben came over to pick her up, they decided to visit Caleb’s grocery store.grocer

And then went to the monument.

Screenshot-113

Rebecca felt sure she could get used to this place (and this boy 😉 )!

Screenshot-116

The next day marked the last day of Rebecca’s stay. Edith and Ben had organised a family gathering in the park so Rebecca could meet Ben’s brothers and their wives and kids.

She met Paul and his wife Fiona (who’s very modern, look, she’s wearing trousers instead of skirts!) and Peter and his wife Maggie.meeting the family

They had a great day, luckily the weather was cooperative! gathering

The many toddlers of the family had fun too!

Screenshot-120

That evening it was time for Rebecca to return home. Ben, Edith, Bethany, Ewan and Matilda took her to the station.

Screenshot-131

Bye bye Matilda!Bye bye matilda

Bye Bethany and Ewan! Bye Edith, thanks for everything!Bye bye kids and Edith

Then Edith and her kids left, giving Ben and Becca a final moment alone.

Ben hugged Rebecca goodbye and promised to visit her again very soon!Bye bye Ben

Though Ben’s courtship of Rebecca was the best example of courtship of the month, he wasn’t the only one trying to get the girl…

* About Bonnie Brae
Bonnie Brae is my mum’s town. It’s an adapted version of the gorgeous Glen Donnach, which can be downloaded here. Bonnie Brae is a small village in the country where time sort of stood still. Most of its residents are religious (to various degrees) and a bit (or more than a bit) old-fashioned. Obviously this is a place where our Becca feels right at home!
Most of the houses and buildings in Bonnie Brae came with the town, but the pub and grocery store featured in this story were built and decorated by my mum. The house on the hill is built by me and my mum did the landscaping for it. Edith’s house was already there, but I changed the layout a bit and decorated it, after which my mum added a few details.
She’s still very much building the town up and changing little things to her liking, so who knows, maybe there will be much more to see next time we visit.

October 04: Is it Scary…? (Part 1)

There’s many scary moments in life; Leaving high school, meeting the guy you might marry, a first date, telling someone how you feel about them, your first driving lesson, taking things to the next level with your boyfriend, and, of course, the great October festival that is Halloween. October in Honeycomb Valley involved all of these scary things. Let’s start at the beginning…

Rebecca

You wouldn’t know by the way Rebecca prepared the family breakfast that morning that this was actually a very special day for her: Today was Rebecca’s 18th birthday. Even more special was the fact that today would be Rebecca’s last ever day of school. According to the Honeycomb Valley school system, children and teens are required to attend school until the age of 18. Once they turn 18, school is no longer mandatory, although you don’t get to officially graduate until 20.
However, Rebecca’s parents felt that a woman’s place is in the home, not in school, so it was decided Rebecca would leave school the day she turned 18. Since Rebecca never really enjoyed school, she didn’t mind this decision at all and actually felt quite happy that morning making her family breakfast.

Breakfast

After the 6 eldest children of the Edwards family had left for school, Amy and John sat down and waited for their guests to arrive.  John’s friend, fellow vicar Jeremiah Brown from the town of Bonnie Brae was to come and visit with his wife Agatha and their youngest son, the 19 year old Ben…

Screenshot-5

And there they were!

The Browns

If you think this visit was a mere social call, you’re mistaken… John and Amy wanted to meet Ben, because John felt this would be a suitable match for his eldest daughter. After all, a grown woman should marry and produce offspring and naturally the spouse needed to be someone John approved of…
Now, he wouldn’t force Rebecca to marry Ben, that would be old fashioned. But at least he did his job of finding her a suitable option.

Screenshot-16

Amy would never tell John this, but she cared more about whether Ben was a nice guy than whether he was “God fearing”. So while John was discussing the church with Jeremiah and Agatha, Amy took her possible future son in law apart to get to know him a bit better.heart to heart

It turned out Ben was indeed a nice guy and Amy felt reassured.

At 15:00 that afternoon, John headed to school to pick up his daughter and officially take her out of school. Elliot said he was sad to see her go, although I think he actually had seen this coming…byebye school

After this official business, John and Rebecca went home where the whole family celebrated her 18th birthday. Happy birthday Rebecca! You’re an adult now! It’s scary, but lots of people do it every day!

Screenshot-81

We’ll check back with the Edwards family later!

Luke

Rebecca wasn’t the only one having a birthday this October. Luke also got a year older. With all the work at the ranch, he didn’t have time for a big party, but there was one person he wanted to ask for a cup of birthday coffee… So, he sent her a text…
Luke's text

The recipient of said text was just having a cup of tea on the rooftop terrace with her mother…

Screenshot-33

Nancy, wondering what made her daughter smile like that, curiously asked Susie what that text was all about. “Oh, it’s Luke”, Susie said. “He wants me to come for a cup of coffee since it’s his birthday soon… I think he likes me…”Receiving the text

“He’s Kyra’s riding teacher, isn’t he?” Nancy said. “You’re lucky, Suse, he’s a very nice guy!” But Susie wanted none of that.
“Mum! He’s much too young for me, he’s only just 20 (he’s 24…) and I’m nearly 40! (she’s 35..)

20 and 40

“There is absolutely no way, mum, no way.”no way

Her mother disagreed though. “You’re not ‘nearly 40′, Suse, you’re 35. And besides, it’s just a cup of coffee, no one is saying you have to start a family with him!” (Although Nancy secretly would LOVE to have more grandchildren 😉 )it's just coffee

Susie then decided to go to her favourite thinking spot by the waterfalls to think things over and to draw.

Screenshot-51

Yes, he’s young… He’s also cute… But he’s SO young… It is only coffee though…
And so, after a lot of thinking, Susie decided to send Luke a text saying she would meet him later that afternoon for some coffee… A bit scary, but hey, it’s just coffee…

Screenshot-54

Luke was delighted to see her!

Screenshot-57

He was also very happy with the gift she brought him; a drawing of his horse Spider.

Screenshot-60

And so, Susie and Luke had their coffee.

Screenshot-63

Luke… You’re staring…

Screenshot-64

You’re staring Luke…

Screenshot-66

You’re still staring Luke… *sigh*

Screenshot-69

Rebecca

A week after her birthday, Rebecca put on her special sunday dress. Her parents had told her she would meet Ben today, the boy her parents felt was a “suitable match”. Rebecca was very scared. She never felt comfortable around strangers and she felt especially uncomfortable around boys, but even her mother said Ben was nice, so maybe it wouldn’t be so bad…

The first person she met was Ben’s dad Jeremiah.

Screenshot-90

And there was Ben. Well, he had a nice smile, at least…

Screenshot-92

Ben was very talkative, while Rebecca still felt very nervous.

Screenshot-94

Ben had planned to spend some time alone with Rebecca as well and took her out for a picnic.Beccas picnic

He even arranged for them to take a boattrip. Awww…. Rebecca was starting to feel quite comfortable with this boy…

Screenshot-100

Sadie’s driving lesson

In Honeycomb Valley, the age to start driving lessons is 17. Though some teens wait longer, most are eager to start. This was certainly true for Sadie. So, she headed to Jake’s driving school to have her first lesson. Scary, but good scary!

Screenshot-101

She turned out to be a natural!

Screenshot-104

Luke

Luke needed a heart to heart with one of the horses. It turned out Raven was willing to listen.
“So, you see, I really like her. Really, REALLY like her. Do you think I should just ask her out? But I’m not sure she’s interested… You know what, you’re right, I’ll just do it!”

Screenshot-105

And so he did. And much to his surprise (and mine), she said yes!
Well, actually, she said yes, because her mother AND sister had told her she could always go on one measly date. At least she would have a fun night out, right?
He had bought her flowers, that was a good start…

Screenshot-108

But the next part of the date was bowling. Now, don’t get me wrong, bowling can be great fun, but for Susie the fact that Luke had chosen to take her bowling on a date, proved he was still so very young…bowling

Much to her surprise, Luke then took her to a building where he told her they had to use the lift… For a moment, Susie felt scared, he wasn’t going to hurt her, was he…? But she didn’t think he would, Luke was, after all, a nice guy.

Screenshot-114

No, he wasn’t going to hurt her. Instead, she was pleasantly surprised to find he had arranged for a champagne picnic on the roof overlooking Bumblebee Quarter! Now, THIS was a grown up date…

Screenshot-115

Luke then asked Susie to watch the stars with him…

Screenshot-117

Aww, he’s just such a cutie…stars

He had even brought his guitar to serenade her… *swoon*. (It was actually some country folk song, but we’ll pretend it was a romantic ballad, shall we… Sims…)

Screenshot-125

Then… Luke gathered all his nerves and told Susie how he had been having feelings for her pretty much since the day they met… And while he was on a roll anyway, he even dared to kiss her!

Screenshot-128

Susie was left stunned for a moment and then told Luke she had to go… Leaving him alone on the rooftop, full of doubt…
